Swedecar - I posted a month or so ago about erratic idle on my 1999 9-5 and throttle body codes which indicated TPS out of range, but it only occured occasionaly - roughly 10% of the time. I ordered and installed a reman TB, but the eratic idle continued and you could feel uneveness at higher RPM. There were no more CEL with the reman but the sporadic uneveness of the engine at idle and higher rpm continued.
I finally found a vacuum leak at the inlet charge air temp sensor - when I grabbed the sensor there was sufficient wiggle in the plastic threads to allow occasional air leakage. Not sure if there was supposed to be any form of sealant on this threaded assembly, I found none.
So it's the 1st time in decades of car work that I've ever erroneously replaced a part. When I sealed the vacuum leak the erratic idle and uneveness of the engine continued - but again only occasionally, about 10% of the time. So after 3 more weeks of searching for another vacuum leak, I finally put my old TB back on - the car has now run perfectly smooth for a month.
I sent the reman TB back and will now have to settle with the rebuilder, the reman unit was clearly defective.
Just thought you might be interested in what the issue was - however I still can't understand the sporadic uneveness after the vacuum leak, a small one was sealed. I would think a defective TB would cause issues more than 10 % of the time.
