Hi Swedecar, appreciate the comments. I actually trust and respect the dealer's position - they agree that it's likely the CPS, but if they replace it and it turns out to be something else, they claim Saab will not reimburse them. So I get on the phone to Saab USA and offer to buy the part and install it myself, and if that solves the problem have them reimburse me, but they will not agree to that.
The dealer says that they could not duplicate the problem and that a resistance test was done on the CPS. The car would not start twice today until it sat for 30 minutes then started. So when I brought it home I ran it in the garage for 15 minute intervals, shut it off and then tried to start 10 minutes later. On 2 occasions it started right away, but the 3rd time it cranked but would not start. So even if I test the resistance, it does not matter to the dealer, they have to be able to duplicate the no start and I sure they do not have the time to do what I did today.
So if it is the CPS it should continue to degrade until even the dealer can diagnose it, but in the meantime I'm inconvenienced . If I recall correctly most other makers can detect a failing CPS through their sensors and diagnose the problem, if this is true I'm not sure why Saab cannot figure out how to do this as well - even though they do not utilize camshaft position sensors. The dealer also claims that they have seen faulty IDMs cause the same symptoms I'm experiencing.
I guess I just expect more support from Saab but am frustrated that I'm not getting any.
