Camry: Reliable but zzzzzz. Uncomfortable seats, and tough to keep it in a straight line on the highway. Toyota wanted $700 for a new exhaust flex pipe. Nothing else broke.
Nissan: Kept it forever - turned into a pile of rust at 17 years old. Always ran great, but after 120k miles things started to break. Parts EXPEN$IVE and hard to find and hard to replace - eg. Saab ball joint, $25 and under an hour to replace with no special tools. Nissan ball joint - $150 (only available from dealer, and only as part of lower control arm) and needed all kinds of presses and a half day to replace. Continual electrical problems finally traced to wire installed incorrectly at factory and shorted under a screw (13 hours labour at electrical shop, $1000). Engine compartment access very tight and routine maintenance tough. Still, I loved my little truck and was sorry to see it go at close to 180k miles. Very hard to work on though.
Japanese vehicles are designed to be perfect appliances, but God help you if you ever need to get one repaired, it'll cost a mint and never be quite the same once you pry those hermetically sealed parts asunder.
Saabs (9k Aero and 2001 9-5): always need to be fixing something. Mechanical parts are CHEAP online (these cars are taxis and police cars in Europe). Car is designed to be easily maintained by DIYer. I'll do stuff on my 9-5 I wouldn't attempt on my Nissan. If you are dependent on expensive dealer service and parts, you're hosed - I wouldn't even consider it. If you want a fast, good handling, good fuel economy, practical, safe, comfortable (superb seats) European luxury car at a bargain price and enjoy hands-on ownership, is the only car for you.
Saab (and probably other European cars) are designed for participation by the owner - it'll last you forever as long as the maintenance is kept up, but will quickly let your wallet know that you've let something slide a little too long. Far from perfect but easy to fix. Speaking from 6 years of ownership of 2 models.
