I bought the Saab roof bars to use on my 03 Aero. I've used them for two years and I don't like them. They are black metal with a couple of small dowel-like things that fit into holes in the roof above the doors.

The tightening mechanism on these bars is pretty poor. You turn an allen-head bolt, which is supposed to cinch the footpads in. It's way too easy to over-tighten, which will punch through the weak, cheap plastic bar caps. I've had to dismantle the things and kind of jerry-rig new cap ends from big metal washers, which works better.

I find the bars also creak and groan under load. In my case the load is a 17-pound bike -- not that much. I wish I had bought some other rack with a different mounting system.
