Being a former insider in the car biz for 30+ years, I sure don't understand where the negatives come from on buying previously leased cars. Quite the opposite, a lease customer is likely to take as good or better care of their high-line car because of the higher demographics of lease customers. At the very least lease vs purchase is a neutral issue, it's really all about the individual vehicle not the method of payment. Hell, the only way to acquire a car after 3 years is to have the lease end. Most people who finance are still upside down and people who own are aghast at the trade in value.

The kinda' headaches you're encountering could all be solved for the same payment as a CPO, and it would come with a new car! But you'll likely turn a deaf ear to my assertion that the 1st couple of years of ownership, 1 through 3, are as cheap as the next 3 years, years 4 through 6.

If you see greater value in a CPO so be it, then you have to deal with selection and history issues intelligently. IRIS is a dangerous thing for amateurs, not enough and the car was neglected, too much and itsa' lemon. Just because it wasn't listed in IRIS doesn't mean it wasn't done. If you otherwise like the vehicle ask the dealer to do the whole 'schamola and drop the oil pan for a sludge inspection. IMHO with full syn you could probably get away with a 24k oil change interval for normal service anyway, but likely it was done and not recorded.
