in the world, Pendragon (UK based), has shut down both of its So Cal Saab shops as of this week. They closed South Bay/Torrance pretty quickly, and not for a better offer, because the site is still barren. And now they have closed with little fanfare Saab of Santa Monica, which is relocating down the street to a Caddy/GMC/Pontiac dealership to become ... Saab of Beverly Hills! Oh yeah, that's what will save the marque, rebranding the dealership (and it's not even in BH, for that matter).
If a company like Pendragon can't make a go of it in a strong Saab market, which LA is, I'm really worried. Just yesterday I took my mom to Farmer's Market, and as I looked around I easily counted 4 Saabs besides my own. The only ominous part - none of them were new. This is what will do in Saab - if you support the brand, you gotta buy the iron. They won't stay in business if all they are doing is selling parts. True, they need good product (which they have with the new 9-3 and the newer 9-5), but they need SALES as well. Saabnet-ers, make this your goal - convince at least one person you know to buy/lease a Saab this year.
