Slightly rough, normal. Almost stalling, not so normal. Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Rough Idle Normal?, csd, Wed, 20 Feb 2008 20:29:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There are a number of things that could lead to a rough idle. Just FYI, it's very helpful to know the mileage and which engine your car has when you've got a problem. I'll just assume 4-cyl for now though. The 9-5 4-cyl is an inherently rough idler, but definitely not to the point it would feel like it would stall if it were any rougher. At most you'd feel a very slight jiggle when stopped in drive. If it's almost to the point of stalling I would start out with new spark plugs, a new air filter, and double check the DI cassette for any cracks, although I think by 2003 DI problems were pretty much resolved from the factory. Make sure it's got the OEM NGK plugs, otherwise it's going to run like crap. You could also have a slight vacuum leak, hence why your indy says it needs new hoses, although I'm not sure if those are the hoses he's talking of specifically. If it's a high mileage car with 80k+ miles you could have motor mount issues too. Just a few things to check, a bottle of Techron concentrate in your next fill-up couldn't hurt either. Good luck, and keep us posted as to what you find!
