1. Work, yes. Low clearance is definitely a problem. The 17's aren't too bad pothole wise, but yes they are more fragile and expensive than the non Aero 16's. Many folks have 16" winter wheel snowtire sets.
2. No mileage penalty for the Aero motor, which is why they dropped the loer power model, no fuel economy savings.
3. Same maintenance, except for the more expensive, lower wearing tires, and spoiler repairs.....
4. Why buy a high performance version and use low performance fuel? But yes you can run regular no problem. You'll get better mileage on premium, and more power, but regular down to 87 works OK with no problems.
And I've sold many an Aero to folks who really didn't use the performance. Many times a performance car has a ride penalty, like Saab's own Viggen, too stiff, OK for the track, but a 9-5 Aero has a decent ride in spite of the sport suspension and wheels.
Does the 2000 Aero have the killer BBS multi-piece wheels like my cool Sportwagon?
