It's a 2000 Aero w/manual with 117,000 miles. When I bought it, I had the dealer (not SAAB) change the oil, they offered free dino but, I refused and we went half on synthetic with a new filter. That was earlier last month. I think that folks actually stuck to the long intervals of oil changes that SAAB directed them to do. However in the owner's manual, I do see shorter intervals are required if your driving in extreme conditions, dusty areas, lot's of stop and go traffic, etc. There are so many threads here about how engines were lost and ways to go about preventing the sludge. Along with theories and facts that I've read about the poor IE oil pump design, exhaust to close to the sump, long service intervals, I think along with the higher engine temperatures to keep emissions down, it's a heavy car with a powerful 4 cylinder engine that works very hard to put out the power that we have come to know and love. I think that it would be a good idea to remove the pan and check it every 2 years after it's initially cleaned out and good oil was used every 3000 miles. It might be over the top, but it beats replacing the engine.
