I'm trying to have my cam belt changed for free on my 03 ARC V6 and hope someone can provide some good advice. My car has 59500 miles so I called my local SAAB dealer to have my cam belt and serpentine belt changed they provide me a quote of $925 for the cam belt and $450 for the serp belt. When I mentioned the manual stated the cam belt replacement was free they told me they never heard that before and said they would have to check on it. I called SAAB's main customer service line and they couldn't confirm it was covered, stated they would have to call a few dealers to confirm free replacement(I found that funny always though MFG decided what was covered not the dealerships). Anyway received call back from dealer stating I was correct the belt replacement was free, but I was responsible for the rest of the cost of the 60K service at a cost of $950, I told them I didn't want the whole 60K service just the belt delaer tells me the only way to get the belt free is to pay for the whole service. Called SAAB main customer service to confirm this and once again was told they would have to check with various dealers. Received call back today from SAAB at first told the timing belt replacement isn't free just the cost of the belt. I told her the manual specifically states both are free and requested to speak to a supervisor, she place me on hold for a few minutes and states the cam belt replacement is free at 60K and the timing belt replacement labor is free at 80K but the belt isn't. I said that doesn't make any sense because they both are the same thing she says they aren't that I have a timing belt, cam belt, and serpintine belt. We argue this for a while and finally get to my original question do I have to have the 60K service done to have the cam belt replaced for free. She states yes she called three dealers and they all told her the service has to be done to warranty the belt change, I argue this make no sense to me and hang up with her frustated. I plan on calling back and talking with a supervisor and also writting a letter to SAAB although I doubt it will help. Can anyone provide any advice on this? Thanks. I appologize for the length but believe me I left out alot of the conversation I had with SAAB's main office.
