Any experience w/Saab navigation system and Bluetooth? Posted by Saabpilot [Email] ![]() ![]() |
As a post of mine below says, I test drove a 9-3 Aero today and will be test driving a 9-5 Aero next week. I'm presently the owner of a 2003 9-5 Aero.
The 9-3 Aero had the nav system. On principle I'd like a car that has this system. I'm curious if anyone here on the board has one, and how you've found it to work. Are there addresses you want that you can't find in the system? Is it easy to use? Is it easy to make changes to destinations? Can you enter multiple waypoints to create a route, like you can in an aviation or marine GPS?
I am presently using a Garmin C550 GPS in my '03. I like it's text to speech capabilities. I noticed the Saab nav unit did not speak the road name on which I was to turn unless it was a major road. This seems like a deficiency. It also didn't display the name of the road on which I was to turn until I was close to the road. Maybe these are things that can be change? I was unpleasantly surprised that the nav system audio did not mute the radio. Seems like a big oversight to me. No Bluetooth is a major disappointment, too. I need handsfree Bluetooth for safety - I'm in the car on the phone alot. I put a Motorola IHF1000 in my '03 and it works great. The new car obviously would come with a year of Onstar...so I either have to determine if I can splice into the harness without causing damage to either Onstar or the IHF1000 (diodes, maybe?), or I'd have to disconnect the Onstar to use the IHF1000. Anyone have experience with this issue???
Thanks, as always for advice.
