Would the expansion valve also cause the car to cool fine at lower outdoor temps and not fine in the bright sun? (I know....duh, it always cools better when it's cold outside.) We've been chasing this problem for several weeks. New blower (it had failed anyway), topped off the refrigerant charge, new heater core control valve. Codes 1-13 and 2-13 come in at times, but the stepping motors all checked out fine when we tore it apart - no broken shafts, etc.. Then those codes go away and we get the 08 code. Then we get no codes, but still the cooling is not adequate. We've had the vibration, rumble, or whatever you want to call it for most of a year at stop lights. I'd call it a coarse idle, not a rough one. Now, this week, a "groaning" like what you guys seem to be talking about has started when the car is stopped or when we are moving, but not all the time. It sounds hydraulic, which matches your idea of an expansion valve.
Soooo.....all that to say this: Is this likely to be an ACC control unit? Or could it be the expansion valve? Or could it be the solar sensor that's not stepping the A/C up when it's sunny? (The center duct temp runs about 60F on sunny hot (95F) days and about 42 in the evening when it's still fairly hot (89F). What about the codes? What do I do from here???
