I'm in the same boat with kids 5, 3 and 6 mo old and here is what I am finding out... We can get 3 across in the 9-5, this is something I couldn't do in my old Audi allroad. I looked at 3rd row cars like the Honda pilot and MDX, minivans, and Volvo v70 and xc90 and I can tell you they are all a pain to buckle 3 kids into. The 9-5 was not much harder to get 3 kids into then the Honda Odyssey and much better to drive. As for the SRX, it, like the CTS are nice rides. The SRX is heavy 4400+ lbs and no turbo. The turbo cars perform so much better up in the Colorado Mountains and don't suffer as much from the altitude as NA cars. I suggest when you take the test drive, bring all of your car seats and see how you do getting all installed. I think you will find the 3rd row not very convenient. But please let us know your impressions of the SRX. They are going cheap around here as well and I still find myself looking for the perfect 7 passenger auto that is not a living room on wheels.
