Not to offend, though. The only thing the V6 needs other than the 4-cyl is the timing belt and tensioners done every 60k miles, not 30k. I have a 2001 SE V6 sedan with almost 180k miles on it and the only things I've done to it that I wouldn't have needed to do on a 4-cyl is the timing belt and stuff. Yes, some things are a little trickier to get to on the V6, like the thermostat and crankshaft position sensor, but those aren't worth giving up on the whole engine. On the other hand some other things are easier to get to, like the coolant bypass valve, which just crapped out this morning on mine. The V6 is probably a safer bet when buying a used 9-5 because you never have to worry about sludge (unless someone really screwed up on oil changes), you never have to change the head gaskets, the head bolts don't stretch, the PCV system is better... the list goes on. If you find a V6 that you like don't totally blow it off. 4-cyl or V6, definitely get it checked out by a Saab shop independent of whoever you're buying it from. Good luck!
