Dancing rear suspension, but nearly new shocks.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 16 Aug 2008 06:59:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My 2000 9-5 has recently exhibited the dancing phenomena over bumps normally associated with failed rear shocks, except my shocks are only 4 months old.
The car has 230,000 miles and most suspension pieces (other than rear shocks) are still factory original. I am assuming the problem is with failed rubber suspension bushings in the rear, but which ones are the most common failure point? And is this a D-I-Y repair w/o an impact wrench?
I also don't know how long I will/can keep the car. Safety maintenance is important to me, but performance upgrades at this point are useless. The car still looks and performs fantastic (other than this issue), but anything more than a fender-bender (or a high dollar maintenance item) will result in the car being "totaled". At this point on the ownership curve, nearly all expenditures have to be cost/benefit justified. The market value of my 9-5 is somewhere less than $3K, and maybe less than $2K.
Thanks,
