I have actually used the Powerflex polyurethane bushings in my 1999 V6 SE. When I first installed them, I was truely impressed with the improvement to the tracking stability of the car over uneven side to side road irregularities. However, while the Powerflex bushings do not affect the spring or shock damping rate, they DO transmit more of the noise vibration and harshness of poor road surfaces and pavement joints. I admit one reason I liked the Powerflex was the ability to install them by hand without a press.
After almost 2 years, I was fed up with the harshness and removed the Powerflex bushings and installed fresh OEM ones from eEuroparts. LesH is correct when he says these need a press to install... in fact Les helped me with mine!
The stock bushings have a fluid core that helps cushion the transmission of small amplitude harshness. The difference coming back from Powerflex was quite noticeable. And... with fresh stock bushings, the tracking stabilty was fine.
ON THE NEWISH REAR SHOCKS... just because you recently replaced them, doesn't mean one of them cannot weaken prematurely. That happened to me with a pair of new stock Saab ones from the dealer. One side, while not failing outright, had less compression stroke damping than the other which was apparent even by hand compression. If the rear shocks are not close to perfectly balanced in damping, you WILL notice a side-skipping twitch in your car over small sharp bumps.
