I agree with Lou. The manuals are very imprecise and notchy, especially on take off.
The new 2002 manuals appear to be smoother, and the dead spot you speak of seems to have been dealt with.
However, having tried the 2002 auto on a test drive (this new auto box, built by AISIN AW, is used in the Lexus and has a clutch within the torque converter to eliminate torque dropoff during shifts)settled all questions for me - I immediately ordered my Aero SW with it. Fantastic !
