My 1999 9-5 has turned 150K and I am an avid, (but sometimes pokey) DIY. Everyone here has good advice, from emotional evaluation (how much do you like your car..) to quantitative economics (how much mileage left if you spend X dollars). In any event, one of the simplest fixes I put off for years is the SID. I even bought another one which went bad. You can look at links here in SaabNet to an illustrated fix procedure with photos that has worked for 6 months for me so far. In any event, I'm keeping my Saab until it can't be fixed by anyone. My first Saab, a 1985 900 Turbo protected us in a side collision and after that I was a loyal owner.
Best of Luck,
Kirk D.
