I was just on a trip when my dash lit up like a Christmas tree, and the systems started to go one by one (while in a traffic jam in blizzard-like conditions). Finally died - impossible to jump.
Indy shop indicated that it was a seized alternator, and the back of it was melted. Luckily, I still had the original serpentine belt and it was on my list of things to do soon so I was not out of that $.
FYI - 2001 9-5 SE Wagon, 115,000 miles - first repair (other than the 60,000 timing belt).
