The load test is meant to simulate the load of the starter. So the load test is performed with the engine off ...
I suppose a vaild load test at home would be to hook up your engine analyzer, unplug the IDM and crank the starter for 30 secs or so. There are a lot of variables though so it would be hard to get a conclusive answer.
but a real battery tester (like at autozone) will place a constant load (current draw, probably larger than your starter will) on the battery and compare the battery response to a threshold.
