Oy veh! It was IWIS chains that caused so much trouble in early 2.3L 9000s and NG900s. I'd have hoped there were split link Japanese chains available, but I guess not.
It's kind of a standard tool for peening the chain pin. I have such a tool for bicycle chains - I don't know if it's sturdy enough to do a timing chain. But you do need a "chain tool", you won't have much luck with a hammer, center punch, and big rock.
