If you are doing this for the long term, I'd definintely avoid the IWIS chain and get the factory part. It really was a plague on the brand, and curious because earlier (non-balance-shaft) engines had no such trouble. There is apparently a very fine line between "just barely" and "inadequate". Anyway, changes to the later 9000s ('95, I think) were hardened sprockets and a different chain supplier.
My analysis showed that the problem was the chain, not the sprocket. The chain wear occurs in the bushing between the pin and the roller. Once the chain wears (stretches) to a certain point, the space between the rollers is too large for the sprocket to engage smoothly. The resulting impact rapidly wears away at both sprocket and chain link (it's always just one or a couple of links where the spacing first gets to that point) and the next thing you know, you've got a clattering pile of junk instead of an engine. I had SEM (scanning electron microscope) photomircrographs done on some failed parts, and you could see roller material transferred to the sprocket. Also the bushing in the chain link in question was completely worn away, and the side plate showed damage.
After the changes were made, 9000s were going hundreds of thousands of miles on their original chains. Not to scare you, but...
