The life of a xenon bulb is based upon hours of operation not miles. Your personnel experience bears this out. Disabling DRL's is a good economy move.
My experience on my 2000 9-5 was 100K+ miles. Dimming, flickering and yellowing were the typical signs that the end was near. Getting 100K+ miles between bulbs was a result of doing extensive interstate driving, which kept the hours of operation low versus the miles I accumulated.
If you're doing a lot of local driving your results are not that surprising especially in view of your use of DRL's. IMHO DRL's are great on an overcast or foggy day, but not when the sun is out and bright.
