Someone probably put it on with an impact...
My preferred tools are:
For removal ONLY:
1/2" drive socket (6 point if you can get it)
Long 1/2" breaker bar.
Use slow, steady force. No bouncing. Use a helper to keep the socket on the plug if necessary. And, of course, make sure the car is well supported on stands or a lift.
Once the plug is loose, put these away.
For tightening:
3/8" drive 6 point socket
3/8" drive ratchet handle.
Crank it down by hand only.
Use a 3/8" drive torque wrench if you like.
No problems in 27 years of Saab ownership using these techniques.
