A tape plug? You only wrap the threads two or three times so there's no chance of it "toasting" your engine unless you somehow lose the whole roll inside the engine. I've done oil changes this way for over 15 years and 6 cars and have never had a problem or leak. Actually, one of my past vehicles didn't have a washer(think I lost it) and it never leaked just using teflon tape. BTW, I usually use the narrow tape not the wide. Also, I bought ramps several years ago, they make changing oil a snap especially when using a creeper.
