I tried one of those Fram things where you screw in a tube that opens the valve. I have to say, after looking at a bunch of them, I still think the best solution is the low-tech regular old drain plug.
Anything you put in there will reduce the flow rate of the oil being drained. And, potentially, will not allow the sump to drain as fully as it should, due to the lowest part of the piece that's inserted into the drain plug hole being higher than the lowest part of the original drain plug hole.
The Fram thingy was painfully slow to drain the one time I used it on a 9000. I immediately pulled the rest of it out of the sump, and got almost an additional pint of oil out.
I'd much rather let the oil flow out the regular drain hole a bit faster, and get more out.
