I was wrong on the part of the engine being shut off. The car is running whenever it is put into reverse. It has to be, if the key is turned to off position the reverse lockout prevents the shifter from being put into reverse.
Partial disengagement of the clutch would affect all shifts forward gears or reverse irrrespective. The clutch doesn't engage or disengage at a different height for reverse! The dealer mentioned that the same set of shift forks for 3 and 4 are also used in reverse. I don't know if this is true or not. But since the shift forks were replaced as this was part of the previous work I am wondering if the issue was not resolved as the new ones are bending as well.
