The Mackay install replaces the saab hoses leading to the heater core/bypass valve area. My memory is that there's 3 of them:
1. engine to bypass valve
2. from valve to heater core
3. from valve and heater core return to engine (a T-like hose w/ 3 ends)
Then the mackay hose set just goes engine to heater core, then heater core back to engine.
Hose clamp pliers made the removal much easier. I was warned that the Mackay hoses might be thicker than the originals, so I replaced the spring-type hose clamps with the screw/worm-drive type from a local hardware store.
Just got through summer in California (mostly near San Francisco, some trips to Los Angeles/San Diego/Yosemite) -- and the A/C seemed okay. But it's not super-hot nor super-humid here. Can't speak for other climates.
