I put the Mackay in without draining the system. I lost quite a bit of coolant that I replace with a mix. Probably a little under 1 gallon.
If doing it again I'd probably drain the coolant just to make less of a mess...if you don't its ok but just be prepared to replace quite a bit.
I notice very little difference in the temperature (NJ USA). I used screw
clamps as I, foolishly, did not have the clamp tool. I left the electrical
plugged in on the old valve. The vaccum hose I left as is also but later plugged the hose going to it from the T..not because I was having a problem but because people on the board here had said they plug it.
I hope the mackay helps you..you sound like you've replaced it many times..maybe your leak is elsewhere? The MacKay will definitely rule out the bypass valve.
