Head gasket sealer experience, Any comments?

Looks like the 2001 V6 I just bought with 130k miles is developing a head gasket leak. At times on start up, it produces endless large clouds of white vapor and it also is leaking badly where the black plastic meets the metal in the radiator.
Please comment if you have any experience using a sealer to seal the HG and also stop the radiator leaks. Which brand to use? Special procedures or instructions? How long did it last? Did it plug up other parts of the cooling system and cause other problems?
There are so many brands of HG sealer. I just bought one of the lower cost ($8) Bars products in the green bottle, with "nanotechnology", but have not used it yet. I can't spend a lot of money right now and I just want to get the car home.
Thanks for any advice.
