John B., thank you for your kind and knowledgeable response.

Mark from Toronto, I am familiar with a dipstick, though I falsely paid attention to my mechanic who simply said to keep pouring oil in if the light came on. I used to be more familiar with cars some years ago, but I'm more into computers now. So I kinda' like to think that my job is behind the wheel and my mechanic's job is under the hood. Particularly since I'm paying him. While I knew that he was not a Saab Specialist, I did not think that I would receive advise that would almost ruin the car.

But I must say that bringing it to another mechanic who says that he is a Saab Specialist was not necessarily a better idea. I will give him what he makes in that he was giving me a discount since I was a bit strapped and I really appreciated it. I appreciated it when he said that he came in on the Sunday before Thanksgiving to do some of the work, as well. There aren't dealership service departments who would do that. However, when I got the car back to his shop this morning because the oil light was intermittently coming on again, after the turbo had been replaced, I was immediately confronted with a raised voice, a nasty attitude and threats. Something which I've never taken from a boss, let alone a mechanic that I was paying. He claimed that I was trying to get a free repair. Note that this whole thing started because my original mechanic said that the leak I had, and the resulting oil light on the dash coming on was coming from where the turbo joined the engine. So if I get the turbo replaced, it is not a stupid question to ask that the mechanic that just replaced the turbo take a look at it. In fact, it looks far more stupid to tell the customer that you don't see what they're getting at, as it brings into question how you were capable of performing a repair in the first place. That, aside from the fact that, while the car operated OK for 2 weeks, so something correct was done, this is clearly NOT a person who should interact with the public, as threatening customers with physical harm will, as some point, make his life and his work a dwindling memory in the rearview mirror of a squad car. I have little doubt that that is a problem that will take care of itself.

But I will say that once the argument had calmed down, he checked my oil and I had added 1/2 a quart of oil when the light came on, which he siphoned out. Again, I appreciated it and offered to pay him for that service alone. I strongly believe that people should be paid for any work they do and was certainly not, as he suggested, trying to get a free repair. Just that, as a customer coming out of a repair that emanated from a leak at the turbo, which was subsequently replaced, yet the problem is back, I am not going to say, "Well, let me not disturb this guy since he's got a temper." That and any threats matter not one bit, as most anything can be equalized.

For now, I'm not mentioning names, as I like to give things a breather and because my mouth is not bigger than my head. But that is for now. Should I feel the need to, I will seek legal counsel on what I can say and let it fly if I need to. In addition, this little story is not over yet.
