Lots of manufacturers use them. I am against using metal pulleys. What happens to a metal pully when the bearing goes? It gets super hot until the belt melts... with pretty much the same net result, but it may get so got it will weld itself to the mount...did you follow the inspection interval? If not then I am sorry but GM is to blame. It is possible the disintegrating belt damaged some wiring to the ABS sensor... so I would trace that wiring to be sure.
