The 6210 needs the upgrade battery, however, the 6310 and some Ericssons are already Bluetooth enabled - no adaptors required. So all that you need is the Nokia Bluetooth Car Kit at £205 vs the Nokia CARK-91 at £90. It's £115 more expensive, but has some added benefits. You don't need the telephone mounting console (which saves you around £30), and you are future proofed in so much as you haven't got to continue buying phones compatible with the CARK91 in the future. I have a feeling that the 6310 is the last phone that Nokia will make that is compatible with that Car kit, as the form factor is too big for modern phones. The 6310 is currently the largest of the (non-PDA type) Nokia range. So if you go the CARK 91 route now, you are likely to be wasting money if you change phones or phone brands in the future. With Bluetooth, it matters not whether you have an Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, whatever phone. As long as it has Bluetooth, you're hands free kit will work. The other benefit is that you don't have to plug the phone in the dash. You can leave it in your pocket/briefcase/boot whatever. As long as it is in range of the Bluetooth Car Kit, you have full integration. Dialling etc is by voice.
As for £350, that's a rip off. Cark 91 is no more than £90. Saab loom connector is about £20, and then there is a bit of soldering/connecting of wires to the Nokia interface module. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half labour if they know what they are doing. It's an easy DIY job, and even being unfamiliar with the job, you could have it done in an afternoon.
Bit easier with the MY2002 cars as well, as they come with an aerial fitted.
I think the Bluetooth set up is the way to go - virtually everything hand held or portable will be using it in the near future. A friend in the trade suggested that there will be some interesting developments toward the latter part of this year. I wouldn't buy a new mobile phone without Bluetooth, and for the portability, and flexibility it gives over future phone choices, the additional £85 it costs over a CARK91 installation, will soon pay for itself in 12 months when I next renew my phone contract and get a different mobile. If you are going to keep your Nokia 6210/6310 for the life of the car, it makes little difference I guess.
