Saltwater is extremely bad for any electornics.
Since you have the 2004, you can't use the older style key without the remote (yes, you can still get all key styles from Saab).
As long as your car has a key slot in the door, you could have a spare key cut for the car, and leave the "guts" out & take that surfing, leaving a "complete" key in the car. TWICE doesn't really care how the alarm is armed or disarmed. You can lock it with the remote, and unlock with the key in the door. I wouldn't swap the guts in & out all the time.
Of course, you could invest in a $3.00 box of snack or sandwich "ziploc" type bags & keep the key in that while surfing. Maybe double them up for safety...
BTW, there's no such thing as a "valet key" for a 9-5. A transponderless key can lock & unlock the door, but can't start the car up...
(Most of the time...There's a "window" during which one can remove the key that was checked & approved by TWICE, rel;ace it with a different key cut for the car, and the car will start up again. But leave it out for more than a couple minutes, and...)
