I didn't have any real issues with my 99, which I bought at 150k. Cheap. It had rust at the doglegs, but other than that, was good and reliable. Until it got totaled by a jaywalking bear.
Beware that there are really TWO 99s. Early 99s are actually considered 98s by Saab WIS and EPC. 1998 was the worldwide official first year, but the US only go them badged as 99s. The big tell is the rear brake calipers. If they look like old C900 rear calipers (but bigger), you've got a "98"...
My '99 was one of the early cars. Built in May of 1998. There's a VIN # cutoff, but I forget exactly where that is.
If the motor isn't sludged, then it probably got the "PCV 6" mod, which came along around the 2004 MY. If not, get that done straight away.
If the car is cheap enough, it could be a good runner for some years yet.
