Evaporative Test Posted by Gene N [Email] (#1094) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gene N) on Thu, 11 Aug 2011 05:30:57 In Reply to: FUEL TANK PATCH SUCCESS!!!!!, K. Daehnke, Wed, 10 Aug 2011 13:22:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
For cars without ODB II, there is an external test for the evaporative emission control part of the car, pricipally a test of the gas cap. With ODB II, the emission testing relies on the car's computer to indicate if there is an evaporative emission problem (CEL). If all the required tests are "ready", meaning the car has been through a specific drive cycle, and the emission system is not obviously modified, then you pass the test.
So, you still had to fix your leak to pass, and you still had to go through the drive cycle to convince the car computer that the evaporative control system was working.
I fixed my P0442 "Evap Emission Control System Leak (Small)" with a used gas tank. I noticed you tried the epoxy and that did not work for you. What did using the HDPE heat welder involve? Is it expensive and how safe is it to use on the gas tank?
When I had my old gas tank out, I looked really closely around the pressure sensor and I couldn't find a crack. How did you even know where to heat weld.
