I think time has caught up with Saab Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Tue, 1 Nov 2011 21:19:03 In Reply to: need help with coolant type and color please, jarrald, Tue, 1 Nov 2011 19:51:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It is many years ago that Zerex/Valvoline said they had stopped making the G48 coolant and that the G05 was a fully compatible coolant instead.
I have kept buying the blue G48 coolant from Saab (p/n 0268177) up until 2-3 month ago.
When I received the last batch of cases it was suddenly superseded to a new part number (12378560) and it came in black GM gallon jugs instead and the liquid is yellowish/green.
I suspect it is the yellow G05 coolant.
What I DON'T like about it is that when I mix it 50/50 with water it turns dishwater dirty in appearance and not nearly as fun to pour into the cooling system since an owner that might check the engine compartment after a big service might be miffed if they think I forgot to add coolant or think that I used some dirty old coolant from a jug sitting in the shop.
It might also be complications if they go to another shop or quick lube place and there they point out that, o'boy, you better change that stinky old coolant right now, just look at it.
So I'm not that thrilled with it.
