Actually, they indicate much worse than average in Electrical for every year they list ('02 - '07). If anything, they show the '04 more reliable than the '03 or '05. But with (relatively) small sample sizes, it only takes a few to make a big change.
I do consider CR a tool in determining car reliability (and general info), but it does have its limitations.
Regarding the Electrical category, you don't know if the owner maint/repair/replace items were alternators, wiring harnesses, dashboards, gremlin switches or control modules, all potentially expensive, but NOT a common problem on this board.
Or are they DIC's and xenon bulbs, both very common items, but easily replaced. I know some will poo-poo listing bulbs, but they CAN be expensive, and I think many were sold the idea that xenons will last (nearly) forever.
CR also indicates Engine Cooling as troublesome (but not solid blacks like Electrical). You don't know if that's radiators or pumps failing (unlikely) or a coolant bypass valve (VERY likely).
