Transmission problem and maybe more

Just the other day while driving my 2001 9-5 SE the TCS OFF light and the gearbox warning light came on, and the car went into limp-home mode.
Just prior to that when I was backing out of my driveway, I noticed a heavy shudder/clunk when putting the car into reverse. I think the car has always done that at some amount but this seemed more noticeable although I could be wrong.
I've looked through many posts online and it seems this could be a bad transmission body valve. However, just to make sure I changed the transmission fluid tonight with DEXRON III because that is what the auto parts guy had as what I needed per his computer system. Further looking into this suggests maybe I should be using 3309. Nonetheless, the transmission fluid was very dirty and looked like it needed changing but it did not resolve the problem. Perhaps I should change it again with the 3309.
My second issue is that the PRND321 lights on my dash are completely dead; none of them are lit at all and no indication on the dash of what gear I'm in. The lights on my shifter bezel work fine.
I used my OBDII reader and there are no error codes.
So my question is that could I have a bad Gear Selector Switch (NPN/NSS) and does that cause my dash indication to be all blank as well as trigger the limp-home mode?
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
