When you say you had limp-home mode, was that transmission limp-home (starts in third gear like winter mode) or throttle body limp-home (CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK when you turn the key on, rough/slow idle, no A/C, no cruise controls, etc)? If OBD shows no error codes then you're probably talking about transmission limp-home.
If you've been running for years with Dex III your trans might be in trouble, the 3309 is a special fluid to support the slipping lock-up feature of the Aisin-Warner transmission and Dex III can cause improper operation and extra wear. Definitely worth getting it out of there.
No gear indicator light is a symptom of bad NSS.
If this were my car I'd first check the wiring harness to the NSS to make sure it hasn't come unplugged or loose and get the transmission error codes read (needs Tech II or Op-Com reader). And I'd get the Dex III out and 3309 in there before I put a lot more miles on.
