Have you ever heard a bad rod bearing - it's pretty loud under load and the noise increases with rpm then quiets or is even silent at idle .
I live in westminster , do all my own wrenching but I heard a few folks say east of Sweden in Broomfield is good but a bit pricey. Other folks go to the mile high saab near downtown Denver - I used to buy used 9000 parts off of them and they had a lot of saabs down there.
But if it's a cracked piston a simple compression test will tell you the bad news as Swedecar advises.
Boulder - uggh I cringe whenever I have to go there or thru there.
