This was the original water pump that failed after 9 years or 91k. Or should I say the o rings failed, because of the labor charge (usually 2-3 x the cost of the pump) it just makes sense to do it but only if you can get your hands on a good quality pump. My indie said the same thing Anders did, there is a lot of Chinese aftermarket parts out there now and they don't hold up. That may be what you got.
He was almost glad to see that I had a brand new complete OEM Saab pump with O ring kit in the box I bought for a 9-3 about 4-5 years ago. He can't get these anymore. Fortunately, the 9-5 uses the same pump. Normally I don't bring parts to him, like bringing your own food to a restaurant and have them cook it.
Weird thing is the original water pump and o rings are still in my 00 9-3 at 195k. Never had Saab o rings and water pumps last very long, usually crap out 70-80 k. I am about to unload that car so I better keep my fingers crossed.
