Remove the mounts and lift the engine about 3 inches and that should give you the clearance you need to get the pan out; no twisting or turning involved. You can jack the engine up and wedge small pieces of 2x4 on the sides to hold up the engine, then release the jack. On some models with manual transmissions you have to drill two holes in the bell housing to get at the two bolts next to the flyweel. Get the O-ring for the oil suction tube before you start.
