eg kerosene? some other organic solvent? that would make it a whole heck of a lot easier I would think!
I agree, poking all those holes would be time consuming... iirc, some very reputable techs here (I won't cite names in case I am wrong) suggested that enlarging the holes is not a bad idea...
The other option is the "Bob Bright oil pan", which is basically a cleanout port installed in the normal oil pan right under the screen... allows the paranoid to clean the screen on every oil change if so desired! I'd probably do that if I had an old enough car, but I've never even considered dropping the pan on my 2004... the piece of mind is partly why I bought it... I've had enough engine headaches with a 1993 2.1L, so I've learned my lesson in that regard ;-)...
