Just noticed that the rotors on my Aero (with 1,400 miles) are exhibiting what I consider excessive wear. All of them have ridges that can be felt, the front driver side has a pair of rings that are quite visible.
Spoke with service advisor, he said that SAAB's and Volvos have soft rotors, and this sounded normal to him. That the rings I see are due to small metallic bits in pad, will soon wear away, and rest of rotor even out. I asked how long rotors last, he said typically 2 sets of pads, maybe 120,000 miles, maybe just 60,000 depending upon driving style.
I haven't even engaged in any heavy braking yet. Have been taking it easy. These rotors show more (uneven) wear at 1,400 miles than my first Prelude did at 150,000 miles, and those pads lasted 70,000 miles. And the Prelude pads never dirtied the wheels, my SAAB's wheels will dictate how often I wash the car. OK, I know that I was trading Japanese reliability for European character, but I expected rotors to last more than 30,000 miles (which I fear might be the limit for mine).
So, what's the verdict? SAAB's have some of softest pads and softest rotors in the automotive world? And this is normal wear? Or can someone out there comfort me by saying that they also noticed rotor wear this early, but the rotors lasted 70,000+ miles? Please
