Last two Saabs were a 99 9-5, and a 94 9000 Aero. Now driving an 02 Aero. The 9000 Aero went 104k miles till I sold it with it's original brakes. Rotors had virtually no wear, and front pads still had 4 mm of material left. New is 8 mm.
The 9-5 was sold in March to make way for my Aero. It had 86K miles, original brakes front and rear, and was nowhere close to needing anything.
Contrary to your assertion, and I must say, paranoia, Saab brakes are not the softest in the industry. Saab buys it's brakes from the same companies that make them for everyone else. Stop worrying with 1400 miles on your car, and enjoy. On the issue of brake dust,I agree with you. The car gets washed based on wheel color more than anything else.
Although I have heard good things about the EBC GReen Stuff brake pads,I am unwilling to be a ginuea pig for the durability testing of them, and suspect that the different materials used in thier manufacture will affect the braking action of the car. How it might affect it is what I do not know, and only want a qualified engineer from either EBC or Saab to tell me what to expect.
One thing I did upon getting my Aero is put on a nice set of Ronal R-7 five spoke wheels with Dunlop SP 9000 tires. The wheels are a lot easier to keep clean than the stock Aero wheels, plus the Ronals look terrific.
Hope you enjoy your Aero.
