Just took my new aero into it's 30 day inspection, with about 1300 miles.

First about the oil change:
I had gotten some Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30 to be put in instead of the standard oil and had stopped driving the car so as not to put anymore miles on the original oil.

What SAAB said was that they do not do 30 day (~1000 mile) oil changes anymore. This has been for a couple years since they started putting semisynthetic 5w30 as the standard oil. The recommendation is that the customer change the oil at 5k miles and then at the 10k maintenance SAAB does an oil change.
I was shocked that they don't do the oil changes at 1000 miles anymore.
Furthermore the manual says change the oil at 10k or at 5k only if you have special driving conditions. This seems a bit too long for the original oil. Maybe it makes sense to go to 10k miles after the first oil change at 1k miles, considering that they use semisynthetic oil.
Knowing that SAAB is conservative I am suprised with the new oil change frequency. This must have some supporting data to make them go to the long frequency changes.
So I did the change myself!
A bit of good news was that the parts guy told me that they sell a 4 liter jug of semisynthetic 5w30 oil for $10. They tested the oil and found it was almost full synthetic and it is made by Mobil and is very close to the full syn Mobil 1. Seems like a good deal. However I got my Mobil 1 full syn 5w30 at Costco (6 qts) for $21.88, not too bad either.

Second: The car and ride.
This car is much better driving than my 99 9-5 SE(and I thought that the 99 was pretty good) and way faster. I am just getting to 4.5k rpm due to breakin period - makes me smile every time I punch it to 4.5k rpm. Cornering handling is very solid without much lean. The torque steer is not noticed at mid range turbo boost and only barely noticed at high turbo boost. The seats are awesome. Suspension is bit stiffer than 99 9-5 SE but seems appropriate for strong car and I don't notice it as stiff anymore.

Gotten so I love the aluminum dash. The telemetrics as far as the 30 min trial for phone is pretty good. If this is not very expensive I will consider buying some more time. Haven't used the onstar service yet.

Quality has been pretty good.
Issues are:
1)the gas tank cover would not open even with the emergency pull handle in the trunk - I needed to pry it open - was fixed with 5min adjust of alignment.
2)the trunk would not close without a good slam - fixed with alignment and lube.
3)windshield spray needed alignment
4)the carpet seems to be very puffy near the accelerator and sometimes gives a bit of restriction to my accelerator foot when I try to pull my foot away from accelerator to put it on the brake- no fix since this is normal, they say??? seems like a safety issue to me.

Basically I love the car and feel like I got a high performance reasonable size (big enough to ride 4 adults) car for a good price.

Sorry for the long winded prose but wanted to pass the info on.

Frank
