According to a Saab tech bulletin, the oil is the same "turbo oil" that they sell over the counter, which is a synthetic "blend" that includes typical refined motor oils plus the enhanced refining processed oil that meets the SAE rating for synthetic oil.
I have used Mobil1 for over ten years in all of my performance cars with excellent results. It is one of the few motor oils that is currently 100% synthetic that is under $9/quart such as Red Line Synthetic - which I used in one of my BMW's. As for intervals, i have consistently changed oil and filter at teh first 1000 miles - not for any reduction in oil capacity, but to aid in the removal of casting and machining grit that is inherent to any engine building process. Try it for yourself - drain the factory fill early on and look at the oil with a low power microscope - see the shiny bits left over from construction...
After that, I change at 5K intervals. As noted, oil (even RedLine) is cheap in comparison to an engine rebuild..
