If they didn't have gauges I used to add them to all my cars mainly because thats what gearheads do and that accurate gauge monitoring helped diagnose problems many times over. But the factory gauges on my F150 are pretty useless. As Larry said I've also noted these seem to be comfortably calibrated to not wander much, if at all from the unindexed "normal" color range. The temp gauge works more accuratley but load and engine RPM don't budge the ammeter or oil pressure much. So instead I use a dedicated OBD monitor (Scangauge) but it still annoys me that the dash gauges have been relegated to a half step above an idiot light.
