My plan was to top off every 20 miles or so. But since I didn't see the temp needle move at all, I figured I was ok. I guess we'll see.
But, I noticed immediately after pouring water into the reservoir that the level was going down. It was clearly leaking water directly out of the reservoir. I have no real way to tell if it is also leaking from the engine block. To be honest, I think it's completely ridiculous for there to be no "radiator caps" like we used to have back in the day. At least then you could see if the thing had water / coolant.
The engine ran fine all the way home without any indication of a problem. Mild rain and 68 degrees I hope helped keep things cool. I had my eyes glued to the temp gauge the whole way. It didn't move at all. It remained where it always does when the engine is warm, right in the middle of the range.
I may try to rig up a T pipe tomorrow just to see. Or else I might just hook my garden hose up to the reservoir at a slow trickle, hopefully putting water back into the system at least.
Not liking this particular design feature of my car, which I otherwise adore and was hoping to keep well past 200k miles (146k currently).
